F1-UV : Printability tester with an integrated UV curing unit for flexo inks. Can also be used for gravure inks.

In flexo printing UV flexo inks have gained a lot of interest. Especially in label and packaging printing the use of UV flexo inks has increased a lot. On an international scale UV flexo has been accepted and has become much equal of quality to offset and gravure at lower cost.

Because it is important to keep the colour strength of the UV flexo inks, the UV curing unit should be positioned close to the printing form. For this reason, IGT has developed an IGT F1 printability tester with integrated UV dryer to be able to get an optimal correlation to the printing press.


The colour strips produced on the F1-UV can be used for the same purpose as the standard F1 printability tester:

  • Measuring colour using colour measuring systems/spectrophotometers
  • Use in Colour matching systems
  • Visual appraisal
  • Density measurements, including establishing colour and density tolerances and determination of coverage, wear resistance, scratch resistance, flexibility, adhesion and gloss, ink transfer, light fastness and resistance to chemicals
  • Testing printing quality


The F1 tester prints all kinds of coated and uncoated materials:

  • Paper, board, plastic film, cellophane, laminate, metal foil, etc.


The F1-UV has an integrated UV-curing unit, printed strips are immediately cured after printing. The device is equipped with driven anilox roller, this way it is possible to ink the anilox roller independently.

The printing part of the F1-UV consist of a combined inking unit with a doctor blade and anilox roller and a printing unit with a printing form and impression cylinder. The testers are specially developed to print reproducible strips of substrate with flexographic ink. They can also be used for printing in gravure mode for gravure ink. In that case the removable imprint cylinder is not used.
