If the ink is absorbed too slowly or too fast, it may cause problems.<\/p>\n<p>An absorption, which is too slow, may result in smearing because the ink does not dry fast enough.<br \/>\nAn absorption, which is too fast, may result in a reduction of the dry ink properties, too many binding agents penetrate into the paper and leaving the pigments on the surface.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this, abrasion resistance or gloss may be reduced. The test is important when using oxidative drying offset and letterpress inks and varnishes, including the infrared drying inks. The absorption tests are usually carried out as comparative tests. The chosen absorption times may differ with type of paper.<br \/>\nThis test can be used in combination with the following IGT Printability testers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Amsterdam 2, 5 and 6<\/li>\n<li>AIC2-5T2000<\/li>\n<li>AIC2-5<\/li>\n<li>Global Standard Tester 2 and 3H<\/li>\n<li>A1-3 and A2-3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information look at the test method information <a href=\"https:\/\/www.igt.nl\/sg\/test-methods\/w48-ams\/\">W48 Set-off<\/a> (0.7 m\/s).<\/p>\n<p>According to ISO\/TS 19857:2021. This document describes a laboratory test method, using a printability tester, for the preparation of specimens to evaluate the absorption rate of an ink on a substrate in offset lithography by setting-off the printed surface to an unprinted surface.<\/p>\n<p>This method describes testing with an amount of ink simulating either single colour or multi-colour printing. The print and the set-off print (counter print) are made with interval times, between print and set-off, common for the target process.
